Dental Therapies Regarding Receding Gums | Health Fitness ...

Receding gums may happen due to a number of elements which include genetics as well as aging. This really is one main dental issue faced by many people today which have triggered loss of tooth in several older people.? Gums recede due to aggressive cleaning and poor oral hygiene that allows bacteria to eat away the gums. Chewing cigarettes as well as eating disorders like bulimia could also trigger receding gums.?? If this happens, it is advisable to talk to your dentist or even periodontist for treatment.

If an individual has a moderate gum recession, a deep cleansing of the affected region can be performed with a periodontist. During deep cleansing, plaque as well as tartar that has built up around the teeth and root surfaces below the gum line is actually very carefully removed. After that, the exposed root area is smoothed to make it harder for germs to add. This procedure can also be known as tooth scaling as well as root preparing. Antibiotics will then be given to eliminate any kind of parasites that may still remain on the mouth. If the receding gums cannot be treated with deep cleaning due of the extra lack of bone and pockets that are too deep, gum surgery are usually necesary to repair the damage. These can be through pocket depth decrease, regeneration, or soft tissue graft. The periodontist may figure out the very best kind of procedure to use on depending on an individual?s needs.

Pocket depth decrease is really a periodontal surgery performed to gain access around the root surface to successfully remove calculus. This cuts down on the size of the pockets to help avoid germs from deciding in. It involves a number of surgical treatments: gingivectomy, flap surgery as well as osseous surgery.? In this process, the periodontist folds back the receding gums and take away the damaging bacteria from the pockets. He will after that snugly secure the gum tissue in place over the tooth root, thus getting rid of the pockets or decreasing their size.

Regeneration is a procedure to regrow lost bone as well as cells if the bone supporting your teeth has been destroyed as a result of gum recession. Just like in pocket depth reduction, the particular periodontist will fold back the gum tissue and remove the bacteria. A restorative healing material will be applied to encourage your body to naturally regenerate bone and tissue in that area. This can be a membrane, graft tissue, or tissue-stimulating protein. Following the restorative healing materials is actually put into place, the gum tissue is then guaranteed over the root of the tooth or even teeth.

Soft tissue graft is done when recession from the gingiva occurs.? This process starts whenever a flap of skin is reduce at the roof of your mouth. The subepithelial connective tissue from underneath the flap will be removed as well as sewn towards the gum tissue surrounding the uncovered root. As soon as done, the flap is stitched back down.

Protesters suspicious of plan to clean up NYC park (AP)

NEW YORK ? The owner of the private park where Wall Street protesters are camped out says it will begin enforcing park regulations, which prohibit everything from lying down on benches to storing personal property on the ground.

Protesters say they believe the effort is an attempt to end their encampment.

Brookfield Properties owns lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park and handed out a notice Thursday to protesters saying they would be allowed back inside after a planned park cleanup if they abide by park regulations.

The notice lists the regulations. They include no tarps or sleeping bags on the ground, no lying down on benches and no storage of personal property on the ground.

The notice says the cleanup will take about 12 hours and begin at 7 a.m. Friday.

It's not clear whether the regulations are new or how they would be enforced. Brookfield did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

The owner of the private park where Wall Street protesters are camped out gave them notice Thursday that it will begin enforcing regulations, which prohibit everything from lying down on benches to storing personal property on the ground.

Protesters said they believe the effort is an attempt to end their encampment at lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park, which triggered a movement against unequal distribution of wealth that has spread across the globe.

The owner, Brookfield Properties, handed out a notice to protesters saying they would be allowed back inside after a planned park cleanup on Friday morning if they abide by park regulations.

The notice lists regulations including no tents, no tarps or sleeping bags on the ground, no lying on benches and no storage of personal property on the ground. All those practices have been common at the park, where protesters have lived, slept and eaten for nearly a month.

"They're going to use the cleanup to get us out of here!" said Justin Wedes, 25, a part-time public high school science teacher from Brooklyn. "It's a de facto eviction notice."

It's not clear whether the regulations are new or how they would be enforced.

Brookfield did not respond to requests for comment Thursday, but two uniformed police officers at the park confirmed that they escorted representatives of the company as the notices were passed out to demonstrators.

Some protesters questioned the need to clean the park in the first place.

"This is the cleanest protest I've ever witnessed," said Emilio Montilla, 29, a laid-off teacher's assistant. "We take care of ourselves. We're self-sufficient."

The notice from Brookfield Properties stated that the cleaning slated for 7 a.m. Friday is part of daily upkeep, and that conditions have deteriorated in recent weeks because that upkeep was put on hold by the protesters.

Deputy Mayor Cas Holloway said in a statement Wednesday that the protest has "created unsanitary conditions and considerable wear and tear on the park." He said Brookfield asked for police help to clear the park so it can be cleaned.

Holloway said the cleaning will be done in sections. Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited the protesters Wednesday to offer assurances.

The protest, known as Occupy Wall Street, has sympathetic groups in other cities which each stage their own local rallies and demonstrations: Occupy Boston, Occupy Cincinnati, Occupy Houston, Occupy Los Angeles, Occupy Philadelphia, Occupy Providence, Occupy Salt Lake, and Occupy Seattle, among them.

In Portland, Ore., where a camp with more than 300 tents and tarps has sprung up in two downtown parks, police arrested eight people before dawn Thursday for blocking a street.

In New York, police arrested four people Wednesday outside JP Morgan Chase offices where Wall Street protesters called in vain for a meeting with Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon.

Protesters accused the police of rough handling. An Associated Press photographer witnessed police officers heading into the crowd of demonstrators to make the arrests.

A lawyer for a woman pepper-sprayed during an action last month is demanding that the Manhattan district attorney prosecute an NYPD deputy inspector on an assault charge. Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the matter was being investigated by police internal affairs and the Civilian Complaint Review Board.

More protests are planned in Toronto and Vancouver this weekend, and European activists also are organizing.

The movement has also drawn reaction from world leaders, including President Barack Obama, former Polish President Lech Walesa and Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Walesa said Thursday that he supports the New York protest and is planning to either visit or write a letter to the protesters. He said the global economic crisis has made people aware that "we need to change the capitalist system" because we need "more justice, more people's interests, and less money for money's sake."

Khamenei said Wednesday that the wave of protests reflects a serious problem that will ultimately topple capitalism in America. He claimed the United States is in a full-blown crisis because its "corrupt foundation has been exposed to the American people."

Khamenei's remarks came a day after U.S. officials said the Obama administration plans to leverage charges that Iran plotted to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador into a new global campaign to isolate the Islamic republic.

First physical evidence bilingualism delays onset of Alzheimer's symptoms

ScienceDaily (Oct. 13, 2011) ? Researchers at St. Michael's Hospital have found that people who speak more than one language have twice as much brain damage as unilingual people before they exhibit symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. It's the first physical evidence that bilingualism delays the onset of the disease.

"This is unheard of -- no medicine comes close to delaying the onset of symptoms and now we have the evidence to prove this at the neuroanatomical level," said Dr. Tom Schweizer, a neuroscientist who headed the research.

Dr. Schweizer's team studied CT scans of patients who had been diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's disease and who had similar levels of education and cognitive skills, such as attention, memory, planning and organization. Half were fluently bilingual; the other half unilingual.

Despite the fact that both groups performed equivalently on all measures of cognitive performance, the scans of the bilingual patients showed twice as much atrophy in areas of the brain known to be affected by Alzheimer's.

The findings have been published on-line in the journal Cortex.

Dr. Schweizer said that bilingual people are constantly using their brain and keeping it active, which may contribute to overall brain health. That's why many physicians encourage older people to do crossword puzzles or Sudoku.

Dr. Schweizer said that because bilingual people constantly switch from one language to another or suppress one language to speak in the other, their brains may be better prepared to compensate through enhanced brain networks or pathways when Alzheimer's sets in.

Previous observational studies have found that bilingualism delays the onset of Alzheimer's symptoms by up to five years, but this is the first to find physical proof through CT scans.

Dr. Schweizer said the results are especially important in Canada, which is officially bilingual and has large numbers of immigrants for whom French and English are at least second languages. His study was conducted in Toronto, where the second language of many study participants was French, English or Chinese.

Dr. Schweizer noted that bilingualism does not prevent Alzheimer's. Once Alzheimer's symptoms appear in bilingual people, it is not clear whether the disease progresses at an accelerated rate.

He said the next steps would be to repeat the study in a larger sample of patients followed over time using more sophisticated MRIs. He said it wasn't clear from this study whether a second language had to be learned early in life to provide maximum benefit.

Foundation: Lost Records | HomeShow Radio | Tom Tynan | Home ...

We are having foundation problems with our home.

Foundation repair had been done before we bought the house in 2006, however we do not have any paperwork or certificate for the repair. Also, we are not sure which company did the foundation repair. Is there any way to find out which company did the foundation repair? If we call a foundation repair company, are they obligated to tell us that they did work on our home?

Eating your greens can change the effect of your genes on heart disease

ScienceDaily (Oct. 11, 2011) ? A long-held mantra suggests that you can't change your family, the genes they pass on, or the effect of these genes. Now, an international team of scientists, led by researchers at McMaster and McGill universities, is attacking that belief.

The researchers discovered the gene that is the strongest marker for heart disease can actually be modified by generous amounts of fruit and raw vegetables. The results of their study are published in the current issue of the journal PLoS Medicine.

"We know that 9p21 genetic variants increase the risk of heart disease for those that carry it," said Dr. Jamie Engert, joint principal investigator of the study, who is a researcher in cardiovascular diseases at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and associate member in the Department of Human Genetics at McGill University. "But it was a surprise to find that a healthy diet could significantly weaken its effect."

The research, which represents one of the largest gene-diet interaction studies ever conducted on cardiovascular disease, involved the analysis of more than 27,000 individuals from five ethnicities -- European, South Asian, Chinese, Latin American and Arab -- and the affect that their diets had on the effect of the 9p21 gene. The results suggest that individuals with the high risk genotype who consumed a prudent diet, composed mainly of raw vegetables, fruits and berries, had a similar risk of heart attack to those with the low risk genotype.

"We observed that the effect of a high-risk genotype can be mitigated by consuming a diet high in fruits and vegetables," said Sonia Anand, joint principal investigator of the study, and a researcher at the Population Health Research Institute and a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University. "Our results support the public health recommendation to consume more than five servings of fruits or vegetables as a way to promote good health."

"Our research suggests there may be an important interplay between genes and diet in cardiovascular disease," says the study's lead author Dr. Ron Do, who conducted this research as part of his PhD at McGill and is now based at the Center for Human Genetics Research at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. "Future research is necessary to understand the mechanism of this interaction, which will shed light on the underlying metabolic processes that the 9p21 gene is involved in."

Sophie Gold: The Unsupportive Spouse and Why They Are Killing Your Entrepreneurial Dream

Your married, engaged, living with or just really committed to someone that doesn't understand why you choose uncertainty over 'job security', that doesn't understand why you need to go on this seminar, or by that book or work with that coach. Is always the first one to point out when your cash flow isn't flowing, and is quick to remind you that you are the reason for all the arguments because you were just not happy with having enough?

Sound familiar?

I have been where you are and that is why I am writing this post today because so many entrepreneurs give up their dreams because of the external voice of their loved one.

Sometimes the road to success requires you to be selfish; the road to serenity sometimes requires you to live in a state of uncertainty. And sometimes you just have to accept, that no matter how you explain your reason for quitting your 'secure job' to run your own business, it will never be understood. And the sooner you understand that fact the sooner you will create room for your business to grow.

Entrepreneurs are risk takers and the majority of this world are not, they understand having a 9-5, doing without and hoping that in their old age their pension will be enough to give them a half decent life.

I will also add that often when you hear 'advice' ask yourself the question 'who does it benefit?' is the person that is giving you the advice trying to get you to stop running your own business because of their insecurities, fear of failure or their aversion to risk? Or is it for your benefit?

I have worked for myself in different capacities for the last 10 years and something that I know to be true is that people don't go into business on a whim, if you're an entrepreneur it means that you have faith and that you have walked out onto your own leading edge and decided to take ownership of your financial future. Its means that you are not happy to settle for just enough and live a half lived life.

So firstly I am going to tell you stop acting like a wimp and complaining that your loved one doesn't understand why you are trying to run your own business. And start running your business. Only profit will help your loved one to understand that you are doing the right thing.

And secondly here are my steps to stop allowing your loved one to kill your entrepreneurial dream and how to get them to start being on your side.

1. Less talking, more action: Words mean nothing, it's all about the bottom line every month share your profit and forecast for the next month.

2. Everyone wants to feel included: Don't hide what you are doing, once a week why not tell your loved one what's new in your business, the blog you have written for, the speaking gig you have secured etc.

3. Let your loved one help: What skill does you loved one have that could add to the business, sometimes they just want to help, and it goes back to point 3 about being included. If your loved one is an accountant let him do your accounts.

4. Don't be a seminar junkie: If there is something that turns off a loved one more than anything it is about hearing the latest quick fix course that is going to solve your problems. There is nothing wrong with working with coaches I am a coach myself but if every day you are talking about working with someone else then that is a major turn off. Why not instead do some research, write a list of all your weak points and find a coach or seminar that can help you in your weak areas. Then once your research is complete present your findings to your loved one.

5. Share the vision: Paint the picture, talk to your loved one about how happy running your business makes you feel, tell your loved one what your 12 months, 3 year and 5 year vision is.

6. Don't put down your loved one: Don't be negative, don't put down your loved one. You have to understand they love you and also they have insecurities. When they say something you don't like listen and then say what you want to say.

7. Focus on how good it will feel when your loved one is supporting you: It's easy to call your loved one names, why not instead focus on how great it will feel when your spouse is supporting you. Remember that what you focus on you get. The more you focus on the arguments you have, the more arguments you will have.

Being an entrepreneur is not a dirty secret, and should not be treated as one.

Based on my own personal experience my spouse was only unsupportive when I didn't communicate effectively with him, once I did he changed and now he is so supportive and helps me in any way that he can.

Speak up, share, include and watch the transformation not just your business but in your relationship.
