7 Tips to Hiring the Best Craigslist Moving Help
Most of the moving companies that advertise on Craigslist are very good and worthwhile Craigslist moving companies. I'd say roughly around 80% of the movers on Craigslist are good to great moving companies. It is the other 20% you have to worry about.
As a moving company owner myself I know what it takes to be a good moving company. It is a lot of hard work, and I just hate to see any Tom, Dick or Harry come in and set up shop just because they have a pickup truck.
They give all of us professional hardworking movers a bad name.
So I have come up with a list of 7 vital tips to hiring only the best Craigslist Moving companies. Some of the tips are positive and some are negative, but all will help you to hire only the best movers from Craigslist:
1) Look for the DOT and the MC/MX numbers in the Craigslist moving ads. If these numbers are not clearly shown in the ad, then that mover is either NOT licensed or insured as they may claim, or they are scammers. It is illegal for these numbers not to be displayed.
2) Do not hire any mover off Craigslist that does not have a professional moving business name. Many unlicensed and uninsured movers that say to call "Steve", "Bob" or "Damon" are only fly-by-night operations. Stay away from those movers.
3) Only hire a Craigslist moving company if their ad is professionally written and free from street or "hood" lingo. This kind of ad is surely written from unsavory individuals.
4) Spelling is a great indicator as it will show you who will actually take the time and move you right. If a mover pays attention to detail like spelling in their ads, then there is a greater likelihood that they will take care in moving you.
5) Most of the Craigslist movers that say to contact "Jim" or "Henry" are just part-timers looking to make a few extra dollars. Nothing wrong with that, but they are not licensed and insured movers. So only pick a mover that has a business name, a real contact person, a phone number and/or a professional email.
6) Do an internet search on both the business name and their phone number(s). In one instance I have found that a "mover" on Craigslist was operating a prostitution ring from the same phone number and business address. Not really, in my opinion, the type of individual you want knowing where you live and what you have.
7) Call the mover on the phone. Do they answer with a "Hello, this is XYZ movers" or with a "wassup!" A professional telephone greeting and/or answering machine message is a sure sign of a great Craigslist moving company.
Moving is stressful. Some industry leaders have claimed that it is in the top three most stressful times in a person's life. I know many that would agree with that statement. But it doesn't have to be. Finding the right Craigslist Moving movers isn't hard if you follow the above guide.
